President's Message
It’s hard to believe that we are already more than half-way through the year 2005.
As a chapter, we have made significant contributions to our industry. We have hosted numerous programs to help create women leaders and provide our members with educational, networking and mentoring opportunities. During the first half of the year, our chapter provided a wide range of educational and networking opportunities, covering topics as diverse as Crucial Conversations, Courage as a Leader, Personal Leadership, Bring Your Child to Work Event, and Embracing Change Optimistically.
At our annual Walk of Fame Gala in May, we recognized and honored industry leaders who have made a significant contribution to our mission of creating women leaders who transform our industry. Because we were truly honoring such great industry leaders who had made significant contributions, we also had record sponsorship and record turnout at our Gala with more than 400 attendees. The support that we received from the industry was truly unprecedented and a little overwhelming. Before moving into a discussion of what’s coming next, I want to take a moment to personally thank each and every one of you who made this recognition event possible. Thank you to our Gold sponsors Adelphia, Comcast, Comcast Media Center and CSG, and a special thanks to they dynamic duo: Tracy Baumgartner and Mary White for co-chairing that spectacular event.
As we move forward into the second half of this year, we have some new exciting opportunities for continued growth and networking ahead of us. On August 18, we will be hosting our annual Taste of WICT event. If you have not been to this in the past, I must tell you it is one of the best networking opportunities in Colorado. It is also a great opportunity to introduce women with high potential for their careers to WICT, so they can learn how the organization can help them develop into leaders that will transform this industry.
In the fall, we have a number of outstanding programs scheduled, so watch for upcoming information on the Competition Forum, our annual Tech Class, and a wonderful Holiday Party.
Our Competition Forum will be held on September 21 and will be conducted by industry leaders such as Comcast West Division’s Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing Steve Bouchard; Adelphia’s Chief Technology Officer Marwan Fawaz; and Time Warner’s Vice President of Digital Phone Fred Fouse.
This year’s annual Tech Class will run October 4 – 7, and our agenda for this year is packed with leading-edge topics and amazing speakers including Margaret Cozzens, President of the Colorado Institute of Technology; Margit Tritt and Ed Williams of CableLabs; and Lloyd R Smith, Jr., who will provide an industry in depth overview of Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity planning.
On December 8, our industry’s professional organizations and the Cable Center will come together to reflect on the year of amazing changes and successes in our dynamic industry and celebrate the holidays together. Mark your calendars now, and watch for more information on this Holiday Party.
Thank you again for your support of our chapter and the females in our industry. I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events.

Getting to Know You
Feel like you don't know a lot of women in the WICT RM Chapter?
Women in the Workplace
A recent UCLA study suggests friendships between women are special. They shape who we are and who we are yet to be. They soothe our tumultuous inner world, fill the emotional gaps in our marriage, and help us remember who we really are. By the way, they may do even more. Scientists now suspect that hanging out with our friends can actually counteract the kind of stomach-quivering stress most of us experience on a daily basis.
Rubber Ceiling
The workplace is full of humor, even if the joke is sometimes on us. Erica Heath (also known as Erica Stull of Adelphia) pens a column every Friday for the Rocky Mountain News called The Rubber Ceiling.
One year, our picnic committee decided that a massive swim party would satisfy everyone. In fact, the idea of appearing in a swimsuit before colleagues, bosses and subordinates gave everybody the heebie-jeebies, so nobody showed up that year except the committee members...
