From the President
I recently attended both the WICT RM Executive Dinner and the graduation of our fifth (yes FIFTH!!!) mentoring class and I was struck by how much our organization has evolved during the past few years, and how much I have personally benefited from my involvement with this great organization.
I remembered going to my first Executive Dinner four years ago and feeling like a fish out of water. I didn’t know a soul, I wasn’t familiar with people or companies anyone was talking about—it felt like the first day of school when I struggled to fit in and make friends.
Only six or seven dinners later, I was delighted to know most of the folks at our sold out event at Nectar’s in Cherry Creek! I felt like I was hosting a party for friends and colleagues, not at all like attending a “stuffy networking event.”
At the mentoring luncheon, I commented on how great it is to see active participation in our chapter by top female executives in our industry (all three female SVPs at Comcast – Charlotte Field, Cathy Kilstrom and former Comcaster Mary White-- have contributed, Michelle Sie Whitten, President and CEO of Encore International just spoke for us, Maggie Bellville, COO of Charter couldn’t be any more supportive, etc.). I also talked about how great it is to see so many of our members being actively involved in WICT RM, whether they are volunteering on committees, getting involved in the board, or participating in the mentoring program, our members are doing more than signing up and putting WICT RM membership on their resumes. By taking advantage of our organization’s many programs, each member really receives meaningful membership.
So, congratulations to the many, many of you who are taking advantage of the professional and personal development opportunities that the Rocky Mountain Chapter of WICT offers! And thank you for contributing to the success of our organization and the development of our members as well. If I haven’t met you yet, please make a point of introducing yourself at our next event. I’d love to know you.
Cindy Bennett
WICT RM 2003/2004 President

From WICT National

WICT received a record number of applications for this year's class. Congratulations to Adelphia's Maria Arias for being selected to join this flagship leadership development program!
The Rubber Celing
The workplace is full of humor, even if the joke is sometimes on us. Erica Heath (also known as Erica Stull of Adelphia) pens a column every Friday for the Rocky Mountain News called The Rubber Ceiling. Check out this installment, focusing on how technology connects to the job, all day, everyday...I've been sneering at the concept of 24-7 accessibility for years, since the people who claim to be infinitely reachable are the ones I can never seem to get hold of. I call the work phone and get the message telling me to call the cell phone. I call the cell phone and get a recording there, as well. So I leave a message on the cell, call back to leave another one on the work line, send an e-mail just to cover all the bases... |
