Work/Life Balance

Starting a Family? Make it Work at Work and in Your Pocketbook.
The amount of time that women take off work for maternity leave can vary widely, but early planning can help families spend more time together after the arrival of their new bundle of joy. A recent survey by Parent Soup showed that a surprising one-third of new moms took less than eight weeks off of work to care for their new babies, with many citing a shortage of vacation time and money as the main reasons for abbreviated leaves.

While parents are given nine months to prepare for baby’s arrival, yet few new parents begin planning for maternity leave early on in pregnancy. Early consideration of financial needs and work coverage can lead to longer maternity leaves.

The Rubber Ceiling

The workplace is full of humor, even if the joke is sometimes on us. Under pseudonym Erica Heath, Adelphia’s Erica Stull writes a weekly column for the Rocky Mountain News that takes a look a life in the workplace – the good, the bad, and the funny. Click here to see her take on mentors… When I learned that the person who gets mentored is a "mentee," I got the giggles and threw a roll of Mentos at my mentor. That caused me to become de-mented.
