| WICT Rocky Mountain Wins First-Ever Beacon Award for “Tech It Out” Program
In recognition for its outstanding contribution to the cable industry and its professionals, the Women in Cable Telecommunications Rocky Mountain chapter was recognized with a Beacon Award by the Association of Cable Communicators (ACC) for its innovative “Tech It Out!” program on April 1, 2008, at ACC’s annual gala in Washington, D.C. The win was a first for WICT as no other chapter has ever received a Beacon Award.
"Our chapter couldn't be more pleased to be recognized with a Beacon Award for our innovative technology education program," says Cathy Kilstrom, WICT Rocky Mountain chapter president. "Our talented leaders work tirelessly to create programs such as this one that provide opportunity for our members to grow professionally. Certainly, this award reflects WICT Rocky Mountain's commitment to helping its members reach new heights."
Beacon Awards honor excellence in cable communications and public affairs. WICT RM won the Beacon Award in the ‘Events and Observances’ category. The ACC is a national, professional organization that addresses the issues, needs and interests of the cable industry’s communications and public affairs professionals.
WICT RM strives to offer compelling programs that support its members so that they may enhance their careers and their positions within the industry. In October last year, WICT RM, in tandem with Communication Technology Professionals, offered Tech It Out as an opportunity for attendees to learn more about industry shifts, experience new technology from innovative companies and network with associates during lunch, breaks and a cocktail reception.
The all-day session also featured two education panels on disruptive technologies and new media services for consumers, content and distribution.
Panelists included representatives from leading companies including Level (3) Communications, Mobius Venture Capital, Me.dium.com, Charter Communications, EchoStar, Cisco, Jivaro Group, The Weather Channel, Disney ABC Television Group, Wild Blue and 2007 Rocky Mountain WICT Woman in Technology Leslie Ellis. Balan Nair, SVP and CTO of Liberty Global was featured as the luncheon speaker, and Tony Werner, CTO and EVP of Comcast Cable served as the event’s keynote speaker.
