July 2009 Event Summary: Volunteerism
On July 14th WICT Rocky Mountain members heard from Connie Campbell, Carol Bower & Erika Reyes on the work of three incredible organizations dedicated to the leadership development of young girls and women.
The common thread among these incredible women is their shared passion for developing young women to be future leaders through volunteerism. Thanks for sharing that passion with the members of WICT Rocky Mountain!
Connie Campbell, a member of the Girl Scouts Board of Directors for Colorado, discussed the unprecedented movement-wide changes that Girl Scounts is currently undergoing and how the organization is working to align its operations to meet the challenges of the young girls of today and the future.
Carol Bower, President and CEO of Girls, Inc., shared the vision of Girls Inc. to empower and inspire girls to be strong, smart and bold, and discussed the programs and strategies the organization employs to reach that vision.
Erika Reyes, former Executive Director of the Circle of Latina Leadership Program sponsored by the Denver Hispanic Chamber’s Education Foundation, discussed the leadership training this Program provides to young women entering the workforce. The curriculum includes programs such as: Personal Power & Identity; Teamwork & Community Building; Cultural & Spiritual Foundations of Leadership; Projecting a Powerful Image; and Accessing the Media & Public Speaking.
